We will use “MRU” to refer to Marginal Revolution University, its web site (“Site”), and all Affiliated individuals and institutions (“Affiliates”).
You must be over 18 years of age or possess parental or guardian consent to use MRU. For reasons of law, children under 13 are not allowed at all.
The content on the Site takes many forms and it should not be construed as moderated or approved or reviewed or endorsed by MRU. MRU is not liable in any way for content placed on the forums.
All users agree to abide by all applicable laws. Users agree not to use this Site for advocacy activities relating to political elections.
Defamation, slander, and libel are prohibited.
Threats to others are prohibited.
You must respect the intellectual property rights of others as defined by law.
All obscenity and pornography is prohibited.
All spam and advertising is prohibited. “High-volume” means of accessing the Site, including but not limited to bots and spiders, are prohibited.
Although MRU does not typically screen or monitor content posted by users to the Site, we reserve the right to remove any content.
Copyrighted material, including, without limitation, software, graphics, text, photographs, sound, video and musical recordings, may not be placed on the Site without the express permission of the owner of the copyright in the material, or other legal entitlement to use the material.
The content and material and information we have placed on this site, including, but not limited to, code, images, text, layouts, arrangements, displays, illustrations, audio and video clips, HTML files and other content are the property of MRU (or those who have licensed to it) and are protected by copyright, patent and/or other intellectual property rights as specified by United States and foreign laws. A separate licensing agreement, outlined below, applies to content and information posted by our users.
In consideration for your agreement to the terms and conditions contained here, MRU grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use MRU. You may download material only for your own personal, non-commercial use or as “fair use” in educational institutions to aid in teaching a class. You may not otherwise copy, reproduce, retransmit, distribute, publish, commercially exploit or otherwise transfer any material, nor may you modify or create derivative works from the material, without our express permission.
Any acknowledgement of credit you receive from us shall not be construed or presented as equivalent to academic credit at George Mason University or any other accredited educational institution, and it shall be treated as a purely personal acknowledgement. We shall not be liable for any misrepresentation you may make with regard to these matters.
You are not allowed to sell or commercially exploit any aspect of the Site without express permission of MRU.
We may ban or block anyone from the Site, with or without cause, at the sole discretion of MRU. We may alter material or the schedule at any time at our sole discretion.
The Site offers no warranties or guarantees and the material is presented “as is,” with no further guarantees. We also are not responsible for the practices of any Site we may link to. The laws of the State of Virginia will apply, excluding its conflicts of law provisions, and you recognize the courts of and located in Fairfax County as the relevant venue for disputes.
The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (the “DMCA”) covers some questions of relevance, including what a notice of possible copyright violation must consist of.
If you believe that any of our materials infringe your copyright, please send us a notice requesting that material be removed or access to it be blocked. This notice should include full identification of the claim, including proof of representation on behalf of the ostensibly aggrieved party, and contact information for further resolution.

You may have the ability to post and upload information to the Site and to related chat Sites, including but not restricted to assistance with translations and transcripts. If you do so, you grant MRU a fully transferable, worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free and non-exclusive license to use, distribute, sublicense, reproduce, modify, adapt, publicly perform and publicly display such content.
Full participation in MRU activities requires you to register and create a user account with an email address and a password. We may at times request additional information to confirm your identity. You agree to provide only accurate information and you agree that we will have access to this information. You may update your Personally Identifiable Information by logging into the Site and visiting your user account page.
In general, we gather two types of information about users through MRU. This may include but is not limited to information concerning your use of the Site, such as which pages you visited, how long you stayed, which questions you answered, and so on. This also may involve collecting information about your IP address as a byproduct of the basic information gathering.
Personally Identifiable Information. We also will collect Personally Identifiable Information based on your sign-up, your email address, your participation in public forums, your emails to us, and other communications.
Here are some ways we will use the information you provide.
- We will use your exam answers to help us identify how to improve our material.
- We will communicate with you in the future about additional courses, or Affiliated parties with related interests may contact you about future courses and related materials.
- Any postings you make may be used by us in future courses and related materials.
- We may share information about your progress with our instructors.
- Email messages to us will be treated as our property, although we will take every reasonable precaution to handle them with care.
- The vendors we work with will occasionally have access to the information you have entered on this Site.
- We will make good and reasonable efforts to strip out the details of your personal information from processed information, but we cannot guarantee any particular level of protection in this regard.
- We will respond to subpoenas, legal actions, and so on with the appropriate information.
If you do not agree with these terms, please do not provide us with any information.
We will make all reasonable attempts to keep your personal information private, but there is always some risk of security violations from a third party. We will use email information to inform you about related future courses and addenda to this course and related information, which may include information from George Mason University and Affiliated institutions.
