In Chile salaries of public employees (all levels) are overal 10% higher than any other sector and they claim every year for more. Congressman earn about US$ 30,000.- a month which more than duplicate the nearest in Latin America (Brazil) and Government spend around 23% of total budget in pay salaries. Despite of that there are same corruption episodes as in any other country. The only way to decrease corruption -at least in Chile- seems to withdraw discretionary powers to politicians reducing the size of government
